Upside- down!

What is this?!?! We've got an acrobat on our hands!

I went over to check on Diablo just now, and this is how I found him! Don't worry, he's not "belly up" in the traditional sense, he's just hiding/being his acrobatic self, apparently. His little antennae are wiggling all around, so I know he's okay!

Yesterday I caught him in the act of eating! Shocking! Unfortunately I didn't have a chance to snap a picture, but it reassured me that he's eating! Well, now I've used a lot of exclamation points! I guess I'm just excited to see something interesting, when so much of his time in the past has been frozen in one position. I don't know what changed, maybe he's just getting used to his home.

El Diablo!

So, update time. Guapo was not healthy. Emma took him back to the pet store, and they were a bit worried about his life expectancy... Oh dear! The happy thing is, they replaced him with our new friend, El Diablo! He looks the same, really, and to be honest, I'm not sure he's that much more active, but he's alive, so that's good!

He seems to have actually been eating, which is good, but I haven't seen him move around much. He hides a lot- I think he's a little afraid of all the visitors, some of whom don't quite appreciate his very chill wood-chip-like qualities. I think he'll be okay though. I'm not really sure what we can do for an experiment yet, he doesn't seem to do much no matter what we do. I guess we'll figure that out after a little more observation.

Day 3: January 15, 2011

Day 3, and not much happened. He doesn't do anything. He is so boring. Yesterday, we really thought he was dead, so we scooted him with a pen, and he hissed! He's alive! As you can see in the picture and as I pointed out in the video, as far as we can tell, El Guapo has moved only along that path...his food has dried out and I hope that means he has actually had something to eat.

Day 1: January 6, 2011

After searching three different pet stores, we finally found him! Our beloved Madagascar Hissing Cockroach. El Guapo. When purchasing him from Animal Ark in Orem, the lady told me that he won't move much, he doesn't have wings, and all he needs is a lump of that green stuff every few days or so. His hiss sounds like a little peep and he only hisses if you poke him or irritate him in another way. Overall, he's pretty tame. In fact, he hasn't really moved...I hope he didn't die on the car ride home. I think I'm getting a bit attached already...he kind of looks like a giant wood chip, yeah?
